Coming from a variety of backgrounds, and with a broad range of hopes and experiences, the opportunities for worship seek to refresh souls, invigorate hearts, and renew our call to discipleship. As one recent newcomer to the congregation expressed it, the Service of Worship captures our diversity, blending the familiarity of mainline traditions with an up-tempo, out-going energy. The congregation regularly meets at 10:00 a.m. on each Sunday, except for the annual “Church in the Woods” celebration on the last Sunday of August, which is held at 10:30 a.m. in Westminster Woods, approximately thirty miles east of Pendleton, in the Blue Mountains.
We also gather throughout the liturgical year with special services of worship, including Ash Wednesday at the beginning of the Season of Lent, on Maundy Thursday of Holy Week and on Christmas Eve. Our congregation also participates in the community-wide Wednesday services during the season of Lent, which are hosted by numerous Pendleton congregations.
We celebrate the Sacrament of Communion on the first Sunday of each month, and at other times throughout the liturgical year. We encourage you to check the church's calendar for these times of celebration. The Presbyterian Church (USA) affirms that the Lord's Table is open to all baptized believers, and we strive, through our celebration of the sacrament, to “commit ourselves afresh to love and serve God, one another, and [our] neighbors in the world” (from the Directory for Worship).
Throughout the year our congregation receives special offerings for mission, evangelism and support of ministry opportunities, including One Great Hour of Sharing in the spring, the Pentecost Offering in the summer, the Peacemaking Offering in the fall, and the Christmas/Joy Offering in the winter. With the approval of the Session of the congregation additional offerings are also received, particularly for the ministry of Presbyterian Women and for Disaster Assistance.
